Jay Uhm – VTN

Co-President

 

Jay S. Uhm is one of the Co-founders of KASE Southern Cal.  From inception, he served as VP of Events/Secretary and now serving as a Co-president.  Jay is a veteran entrepreneur who has over 15 years combined experiences in the field of electronics, telecommunications, medical, environmental, and recreational industries.  Currently, he is the president of VTN providing advanced VoIP communications solutions that improve customer service and optimize operational productivity and costs to the enterprise, healthcare, small business, retail, and hospitality industries.  Prior to VTN , Jay was a president of Adventure Sportfishing, Inc., the first Korean American owned Sportfishing charter operation(85’ boat named Deep Adventures III) based out of Monterey and San Diego, California.

 

 

Wally Lee – Merinus Capital

Co-President

 

Wally Lee is President/co-owner of Merinus Capital and Msales Software.  Prior to returning to the mortgage industry, Wally served as the chief architect of the humanitarian logistics software for a non-profit organization, which enables the world's humanitarian organizations to automate their supply chains and make their logistics operations more efficient for disaster response and relief.  This software was used by the International Red Cross for the recent Tsunami response in Asian.  Prior to the non-profit, Wally served as a Chief Technology Officer for a supply chain start up, Tradami and as the Chief Information Officer of the online division of New Century Mortgage Company. Wally has also served in leadership roles in engineering, supercomputing and information technologies at aircraft and spacecraft companies. Wally has a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Illinois and a M.S. in Engineering from the University of California.

 

Charles Kim – founder and President – MBEX, StartupZone

Charles Kim is founder of MBEX, the leading international mail & package forwarding service provider and international shopping enabler.  Charles Kim is founder of StartupZone, the leading resource and solution provider for venture capital backed startup companies.  Prior to StartupZone, Charles was president of Queston Technology, Inc., a business development consultancy.  Charles was instrumental in transporting the brands and technologies of Netscape, RealNetworks and NetGravity (acquired by DoubleClick) to Asia.  Prior to that, Charles worked as an engineer at McNeil Schwendler Corp (MSC.Software).  He has received his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California

Joo Hong Kim – Joo Hong Investment Advisors -Raymond James

Joo Hong, presently a president of Joo Hong Kim Investment Advisors, Inc., has over 15 years of experience in investment and portfolio management.  Prior to that, Joo Hong was a  First Vice President of Investments at Smith Barney Citigroup and a Vice President at Schroder Wertheim.  He has received a certification from WASEDA University in Japan.  Joo Hong holds a M.B.A. from USC and and BA in economics from Cal State University Northridge.

 

 

Steve Lee, Board of Director

Founding president of Korean American Society of Entrepreneurs (KASE), Southern California Chapter (2002-2005).  President of bMesssages, a database company based in Irvine and Glen Allen, VA.  As an entrepreneur, Steve founded bMesssages, Inc., a direct marketing information services company and Arbitrel, a venture capital backed CRM Software Company. 

 

Previously, Steve worked as a management consultant for a global management consulting firm, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).  While at BCG, Steve provided business strategies to Global Fortune 1000 companies and personally initiated several successful global alliances of Asian conglomerate with European and American companies.  Prior to working for BCG, Steve designed and developed Communications Satellites Sub-systems at Hughes Aircraft Company, (Boing today), leading a multi-disciplinary team of engineers.  Steve received his BS in Engineering from UCSD and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Mitch Shin -- CardCom Technology 

VP, Membership

 

Mitch is currently the Managing Partner of CardCom Technology, a provider of Auto Identification Solutions in Magnetic Stripe, Barcode, Smart IC Chip and RF Technology. Mitch patented ID verification technology that instantly reads, and verifies the encoded data in magnetic stripes and PDF-417barcodes on government-issue IDs from approximately 60 jurisdictions in the U.S. and Canada.

 

Prior to joining CardCom Technology in 1995, Mitch worked for a various Korean technology companies to market products to North American market.

Mitch also held an Engineering position at Douglas Aircraft Company which is now Boeing and at Magnavox, a North American Phillips Company.   Mitch earned BS in Engineering Technology at California State University at Long Beach.

 

 

Jack Oh – Delta Plastics

VP, Membership

 

Jack Oh has been a member of KASE since 2004. Jack has spent over 12 years on Delta Plastics, a manufacturer of injection molded plastic packaging. Started in 1993, Delta proudly does all of its manufacturing in the U.S., has grown into a strong organization doing $50 million a year in sales (2004), with healthy profit margins and consistent sales growth. In 2005, Jack and his partner, Chris Rakhshan, sold the business to Rexam, a global manufacturing company based out of London. Rexam is a leading consumer packaging company with over $6 Billion in sales and operations in over 20 countries. Despite selling the business, Jack is continuing on with Rexam to help the company continue its growth.  Jack holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, and is the proud father of 3 girls.

 

Ed Kim – Liquid Metal Technologies

VP, Events

Ed, presently a Director of Quality for Liquidmetal Technologies, has over 15 years of experience in strategic planning, project management, business development, supply chain management, product management and quality management.

Ed’s prior business experiences include strategic planning, product management and quality management at ITT Industries, Cannon division (electronics components manufacturing), and strategic planning, marketing and trading various petroleum products at Texaco Refining and Marketing Inc.

Ed is a certified Six-Sigma Black Belt (University of Michigan) and holds an MBA in Marketing and International Business from Columbia and SB in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Young Kim - VP, Legal and Events

Young J. Kim has practiced transactional corporate, securities and intellectual property law for over ten years, representing mostly startup to middle market companies, to enable the growth of their businesses.  Young’s own entrepreneurial spirit drove him to start his own law firm in 2003 and later the formation of Olsen & Kim LLP, resulting in an active practice representing a number of clients on their complex legal matters.  Young started his legal career at Latham & Watkins in 1994 and served as the general counsel at a publicly held company.  Young has lived in Korea and Malaysia for seven and four years, respectively, and speaks Korean. He earned a BS in industrial engineering and a BA in philosophy from the University of Washington, and a JD from the Columbia University School of Law. 

Harry Kim - VP, Legal

Mr. Harry H.W. Kim is the corporate and securities partner at Lee Anav Chung LLP.  Mr. Kim was formerly associated with K&R Law Group LLP (formerly Konowiecki & Rank) (1999-2004); Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP (1996-99); McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen (now Bingham McCutchen LLP) (1994-96); and Sullivan & Cromwell (1991-94) (Los Angeles).  Mr. Kim was also general counsel of California Laser Company during part of 1999. Mr. Kim has extensive experience in corporate and securities matters, with an emphasis on technology and healthcare clients.  Mr. Kim has significant expertise in formation of corporations, limited partnerships and limited liability companies; mergers and acquisitions, including asset and stock transactions; private securities offerings; compliance with SEC reporting requirements for public companies; credit agreements; and real estate purchases, sales and leases.  

He received his J.D. in 1991 from New York University School of Law, in 1991, where he was a member of the NYU Law Review.  He received his A.B. in 1986 from Harvard College.

 

Sarah Yoon – Heiss Communications

VP, Marketing

 

Sarah is currently the President and CEO of Heiss Communications, an advertising firm specializing in market research, planning, graphic design, and promotional items.  Prior to that, Sarah was a professor & conductor in music at Seoul Education Training Institute.  Sarah is a current IDAS( Intellect & Design as Asset for the future Society ) member and finished New Millennium CEO course at International Design School for Advanced Studies.

 

Sarah holds a B.A in Art and Administration from Seoul National University and M.A. in Music Psychology from Seoul National University.

   

 

David Y Choi -- Professor -- Loyola Marymount University

VP, Education


David is an Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship and an Assistant Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship in the
College of Business Administration at Loyola Marymount University.   In the past, he also served as a researcher and a founding Fellow of the Global Leadership Initiative at Harvard Business School.  Prior to coming to Loyola Marymount University, David worked nearly 10 years as a management consultant to Global Fortune 500 companies and entrepreneurial ventures in both the U.S. and overseas.  David was a strategy consultant with The Boston Consulting Group where he was a member of the Los Angeles and Seoul offices.
